How to Join Pakistan Army as a Soldier in 2026: Eligibility, Age, Height and Steps

Published 28 October 2026

If you want to join Pakistan Army as a soldier this year, the clock is already running. According to the advertisement reported on 31 August 2026, the online portal for soldier trades closes on 16 November, and walk-in applications at recruitment centres close on 23 November. That is not much time to arrange a domicile, attested copies and photographs.

This page puts the main rules in one place so you do not have to jump between five websites. Everything below comes from the 2026 notice as reported by Ilm Ki Dunya, last year’s report by the Associated Press of Pakistan, and a few recruitment guides, which we flag when we use them. We could not open the official site while writing this, so please check every figure there before you act.

Which post fits you before you join Pakistan Army?

Pick the trade you actually qualify for before you join Pakistan Army, because a wrong choice can waste the whole cycle. The right trade makes it far easier to join Pakistan Army at the first attempt.

The notice lists eight posts: Naib Khateeb (Junior Commissioned Officer), General Duty Soldier (Sepoy), Technical Soldier, Soldier Driver, Military Police, Clerk, Cook and Sanitary Worker. Most readers of this site will be looking at General Duty, so start with the first row of the table. Ages are counted as on 24 November 2026.

PostMinimum educationAgeMinimum height
General Duty SoldierMatric17½ to 235 ft 6 in (167.5 cm)
Technical SoldierMatric with Science, B grade or better17½ to 235 ft 6 in
Soldier DriverMatric (verified driving licence preferred)17½ to 235 ft 6 in
Military PoliceMatric17½ to 235 ft 8 in (173 cm)
ClerkIntermediate, C grade or better17½ to 235 ft 3 in (160 cm)
CookMiddle17½ to 235 ft 3 in
Sanitary WorkerLiterate (primary standard)17½ to 355 ft 3 in
Naib KhateebDars-e-Nizami plus FA/FSc or equivalent20 to 285 ft 3 in

One thing worth noticing: last year’s APP report put the height minimum for most posts at 5 ft 3 in, while this year’s listing asks for 5 ft 6 in for General Duty. So height rules clearly shift from year to year. Do not rely on an older guide or a cousin’s memory. Chest and weight limits are not mentioned in the 2026 listing we read.

Relaxations

If you are slightly over the limit, check whether you qualify. Graduates get one extra year. Candidates from Balochistan and the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa can get up to three extra years, plus a two-inch height relaxation (Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and the merged districts), although clerks and Military Police are left out of some of these. Serving personnel applying for Naib Khateeb fall in the 22 to 35 bracket. Whatever you claim, you will need paper proof of it.

How to apply to join Pakistan Army

For more on this topic, browse our Defence Jobs section.

You have two options. The first is online at www.joinpakarmy.gov.pk, which is open for soldier trades until 16 November. The second is in person at an Army Selection and Recruitment Centre or a designated Regimental Centre. The notice names Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi, Quetta and Multan, and walk-ins are accepted until 23 November.

Fill in the form slowly. Your name, CNIC number and education should match your documents letter for letter, because mismatches cause trouble later at the centre. Screenshot or save your registration details when you finish.

Documents to arrange now

Anyone who wants to join Pakistan Army needs the same basic file, so start collecting it today rather than in the last week. Candidates who join Pakistan Army without a missing paper are usually the ones who started early.

Do this part before you open the website, because the slowest item is usually the domicile or the attestation.

  • Original degrees and transcripts, plus two attested photocopies
  • CNIC or Form-B
  • An updated domicile certificate
  • A State Subject Certificate, compulsory for candidates from Azad Kashmir
  • Four recent passport-size photographs
  • Proof of any relaxation you are claiming

What the selection looks like

The steps to join Pakistan Army follow a fixed order, and a failure at one stage usually ends the process for that cycle. Knowing the order helps you prepare for each stage before you reach it, which is the real way to join Pakistan Army without wasting a year.

APP lists three stages, all at the Army Selection and Recruitment Centres: a written test, physical and medical tests, then an interview.

For the written test, the recruitment site GoTest describes Matric-level multiple choice questions in English, Urdu, maths and general knowledge, with a short computer test for clerks. The same site mentions a 1.6 km run in eight minutes or less and says some centres also test push-ups and sit-ups. That site is not the Army, and it contradicts itself in places, so treat those numbers as a rough idea and ask the centre for the real standard.

The medical is where people get rejected for reasons they could have caught early. GoTest names eyesight problems, flat feet and chest deformity. If you have worried about any of these, get a check-up before you apply rather than after.

A sensible way to use the weeks you have

If you plan to join Pakistan Army in this cycle, work backwards from the closing date and give each stage its own block of days. A written plan to join Pakistan Army beats a vague promise to train harder. Review it weekly until the day you join Pakistan Army.

You are not going to transform your fitness in three weeks, but you can avoid silly failures. Run three or four times a week and build up the distance instead of going flat out on day one. If you have a medical condition, see a doctor first. Spend a little time each evening on Matric basics, because the written test is not designed to trick anyone, it just filters out people who have not opened a book for a while. And keep your documents in one folder so you are not hunting for a photocopy on the morning of the test.

Watch out for touts

Nobody can sell you a seat. When you join Pakistan Army, you do it through the test, the medical and the interview, not through a middleman. Anyone who says they can help you join Pakistan Army for a fee is a tout.

Every recruitment season, someone claims to know a “contact” who can fix your selection. Do not pay. No notice we read mentions a fee, and a tout cannot help with a medical or merit list even if he wants to. In 2018 the military’s media wing ISPR warned the public about fake calls from people posing as army officials and asked them to report such calls on 1135 and 1125, according to Dawn. That was years ago, so double-check the numbers before you rely on them. Also stay away from unofficial pages that collect your CNIC and phone number.

A few common questions

These are the questions people ask most often before they join Pakistan Army. If yours is missing, check the official notice before you decide to join Pakistan Army this cycle.

I am 23 and a half. Can I still apply?

It depends on your trade and on the cut-off date. The Army counts your age on 24 November 2026. For most soldier trades the upper limit is 23, but graduates get an extra year and candidates from Balochistan and the merged districts of KP can get up to three. If none of that applies to you, the answer is no.

Do I need to pay anyone to get selected?

No. None of the notices we read mention any application fee, and nobody outside the selection system can promise you a seat. If someone asks for money to fix a test, a medical or a merit position, walk away.

What if I am shorter than the minimum height?

Height is checked at the centre, and the limit depends on the trade. General Duty needs 5 ft 6 in, Military Police 5 ft 8 in, and clerks and cooks 5 ft 3 in. There is a two-inch relaxation for Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and the merged districts, but not for every trade, so read the advertisement before you decide.

Can women apply for these posts?

Not for this notice. The 2026 soldier and Naib Khateeb advertisement is for men. The Army has separate routes for women, which are announced on their own.

What exactly are the selection stages?

The Associated Press of Pakistan lists three: a written test, physical and medical tests, and an interview, all held at Army Selection and Recruitment Centres. Details such as the running time come from recruitment guides and are not confirmed by the Army, so ask at your centre.

Which website should I use?

Only joinpakarmy.gov.pk. Be careful with look-alike sites and social media pages that ask for your CNIC and phone number.

MicroJobHub is not connected to the Pakistan Army and does not recruit anyone. Treat this page as a starting point and confirm everything on the official website or at your recruitment centre.
