How to Apply for FPSC Jobs Online: Fees, Documents, Age Relaxation and Test Day Rules

Applying for FPSC jobs online takes about an hour once your documents are ready, but one small mistake can cost you the whole attempt. An FPSC application can be thrown out before anyone looks at your marks: a missing receipt, a fee paid after the closing date, a qualification that does not match the advertisement. None of that is about being clever. It is about being careful, and the rules for federal posts are very specific.

This guide walks through the application from start to finish and points out the places where people usually slip. It is built from the commission’s own FAQ page and notices, plus an older PhoneWorld walkthrough from 2023 for the portal steps. The website may look different today, so go by what the screen tells you if it disagrees with us.

First, know the calendar

Every advertisement for FPSC jobs online carries its own closing date, so read the dates before anything else. A missed date ends your chance at FPSC jobs online for that advertisement.

FPSC advertises general recruitment posts on the first Sunday of each month. From that day you have 15 days to apply. It is easy to put this off for a week, and then the last two days turn into bank queues and a busy portal. Pay the fee early.

How to apply for FPSC jobs online, in order

  1. Read the advertisement for your post. Check the grade, the required qualification and experience, the age limit, and the domicile or quota condition. If any line is unclear, do not guess.
  2. Pay the fee and keep the receipt. Use the bank details printed in the advertisement. On test day you need the original treasury receipt.
  3. Go to online.fpsc.gov.pk and choose General Recruitment, then Apply Online.
  4. Enter your details. Post, CNIC number, fee deposit date, amount and bank, domicile, gender, religion, qualification and transcript information.
  5. Pick your test and interview centres.
  6. Submit, then write down your tracking number. It appears as soon as you finish, and you can pull it up again with your CNIC.
  7. Print the application with your CNIC and tracking number, and save a PDF as well.

If something breaks, FPSC lists a helpline, 051-111-000-248, and an email address, fpsc@fpsc.gov.pk.

What FPSC jobs online cost you in fees

GradeFee
BS-16 and BS-17Rs. 300
BS-18Rs. 750
BS-19Rs. 1,200
BS-20 and aboveRs. 1,500
CSS written examinationRs. 2,200

That is what the FAQ page shows. Check your own advertisement before paying, because fees are revised from time to time.

Age relaxation, without the confusion

Age limits for FPSC jobs online differ by post, and relaxation is added only when the advertisement allows it. Check the age rules for FPSC jobs online against your date of birth before you pay any fee.

Only one category of relaxation can be used by a candidate. On top of it, a general five-year relaxation may be added. The FAQ lists these for general recruitment:

  • 3 years for Scheduled Castes, Buddhists, and eligible residents of tribal areas, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
  • Up to 10 years, with a ceiling of age 55, for government employees with at least two years of continuous service.
  • Up to 15 years, or the years actually served if that is less, for retired or released armed forces personnel.
  • 5 years for the widow, son or daughter of a civil servant who died in service.

CSS is stricter. Certain categories get 2 years, up to age 32, and no Presidential or Prime Ministerial relaxation applies.

The test is MCQ now

Preparing for the written part? Our guide to the FPSC MCQ test covers the pattern and a study plan.

If an older relative or a coaching centre is still telling you to practise long descriptive answers, they are out of date. An FPSC notice dated 22 August 2025 replaced descriptive written tests with objective MCQ tests for BS-16 to BS-21 posts advertised from 21 September 2025. Every paper is worth 100 marks, and each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.

GradePost typePapersPass mark per paper
BS-16 and 17All posts140%
BS-18 and 19Doctors, general management, professional or technical240%
BS-18 and 19Teaching posts250%

We have a separate piece on how to prepare for the MCQ tests.

On the day of the test

Candidates for FPSC jobs online should reach the centre early and carry the documents the call letter asks for. A calm test day is part of getting through FPSC jobs online.

The FAQ is blunt here: a candidate missing any of these four things cannot sit the paper.

  • Your original CNIC
  • The original treasury receipt for the post
  • The admission certificate, downloaded from the website with your CNIC number
  • A blue or black marker pen

Phones, books and purses stay outside, and FPSC will not take responsibility for them. Be at the centre 30 minutes early. Nobody is allowed in once the paper has started. General recruitment tests are held in 12 cities, and the syllabus is on the FPSC website.

How applications get thrown out

Most rejected applications for FPSC jobs online fail on the same few points. Each of them is easy to avoid when you apply for FPSC jobs online with a checklist open.

The FAQ lists the reasons. In plain words: you were late, you did not pay in time, you could not show the original receipt, you did not meet the age or domicile condition, you could not prove your qualification or experience, or you missed the hard-copy deadline in a notice. And once the paper is marked, there is no rechecking for general recruitment.

Quick answers

Short answers to the questions people ask most about FPSC jobs online. If your question is not here, the advertisement for the post is the final word on FPSC jobs online.

When do FPSC jobs come out?

The FPSC FAQ says general recruitment posts are advertised on the first Sunday of every month, and you get 15 days to apply for anything you qualify for.

Do I have to post my documents?

Not at the application stage. FPSC says no hard copy is needed, and documents are asked for only when a notice tells you to send them. If a notice does ask, the deadline in it matters. Missing it is a reason for rejection.

I applied for the wrong post. Can I fix it?

You can correct your application until the closing date. After that, no. If you want to apply for a different post, file a separate application for it, with its own fee.

What if I lose my treasury receipt?

This one hurts. FPSC says the original treasury receipt must be shown on test day, and photocopies, scans and bank slips are not accepted. Keep the original somewhere safe, away from the rest of your papers.

Can I change my test city?

Yes, online, up to 30 days before the exam. Women and persons with disabilities can ask up to 15 days before, with proof.

Does the new MCQ system apply to CSS?

No. The change covers general recruitment for BS-16 to BS-21 posts advertised from 21 September 2025. The CSS competitive exam has its own rules.

We are not part of FPSC. Fees, dates and rules change, so the current advertisement and the FPSC website always come first.
